For Use as an Industrial Chemical: Copper Sulfate can be used in many non-pesticide industrial applications, such as a froth flotation activator for zinc and lead ores, in electroplating and electroless plating of metals and plastics, as a raw material for chemical reagents and copper salts, as a battery electrolyte, metal marking inks and anti-rust formulations. Copper Sulfate may also be used as a mordant in the textile and leather industries, as an ingredient in pigments and as a coloring agent in fireworks and fire logs..
Foot Bath
A typical footbath should be 3 metres by 1 metre and 10cm deep and this would contain 300 litres of water. To get a 5% solution of copper sulphate you need 15kg of copper sulphate (25%), but many farms need an 8% solution to control digital dermatitis i.e. 24kg Copper Sulphate. How long does a copper sulphate bath last? One passage of up to 300 cows for a 300 litre footbath, if you have a 150 cow herd and use the solution for 2 milkings its effect will be reduced at the second milking due to the effect of manure in the footbath. How long before the footbath is used should I make up the solution? To get the maximum release of copper ions into the footbath make up the solution at least 4 – 5 hours before use.

For Use as a Footbath for Cattle: Copper Sulfate can be used in a 2% to 5% solution (by weight) with immersion lasting between 5 and 20 minutes, once or twice daily, for a period as prescribed by your veterinarian
For Use as a Fertilizer Additive: Copper Sulfate is a valuable copper supplement in mixed fertilizers and soil conditioners. Consult your State or Provincial Department of Agriculture for guidance in preparing dosages and formulas.
